Or is it?
Maybe 6 or 8 weeks ago you had every intention of focusing a little harder and getting into tip top shape for a vacation, a photo shoot (#fierceforphotos) or other big event coming up this summer but you didn’t quite seem to pull your life as together as you had hoped.
Now you have just 14-30 days left and you’re feeling like it’s a “waste of time” to try because you aren’t going to reach those BIG original goals.
It’s sad really. The fact that people often quit because they are disappointed that they will not be able to achieve what they COULD have, instead of focusing on what they can still do.
Ah, but see, that’s where that all or nothing mentality rears its ugly head and keeps you stuck in the same place month after month and year after year.
Something is ALWAYS better than nothing (at least when it comes to health and fitness).
Here’s the fact of life: 9 times out of 10 there will ALWAYS be something that comes up and doesn’t allow us to work our plan as perfectly as we have envisioned.
Our main focus then should be on moving forward. So maybe you lose 8lbs instead of 15. Maybe you nail 2 pull-up instead of 5.
It’s all PROGRESS. You are now that much closer to your big goal.
The mindset shift of focusing on the next best thing you can do NOW instead of scrapping it all and waiting for inspiration to strike again is what will eventually make healthy living a true lifestyle.
Look, I’m all about focus and commitment and dedication. And when that blue moon hits and we can go 6-8 weeks with everything going smooth as silk, take it and RUN.
But those other 9 times out of 10 when you find yourself not on the exact path or timeline you had hoped for, reassess, refocus and do the next best thing to move forward.
Have a great week.
