Do you ever come home from grocery shopping and think, “Wow, I really bought way more than I needed!”
It happens to all of us. Grocery stores LOVE for you to buy their stuff, and they don’t care if you’re trying to eat healthy.
So here are my 2 expert tips on how to stick with your healthy meals while shopping:
Walk through the isles with blinders or Hire someone to do it for you.
Ha! Okay, okay maybe those are not realistic.
Here’s what REALLY works, the tried and true:
- The influence of your growling tummy on your decisions is real and strong! Your best bet is to not go to the grocery store with an empty stomach. Your cart will mysteriously fill with extra,
unnecessary foods that will end up crashing your good intentions and putting a bigger dent in your wallet.
2. Make a list before you go to the store. You’ll be able to think rationally at home before you’re surrounded by tasty, FITNESS destroying foods. Go a step further and avoid making your list when you’re hungry. The belly is a powerful thing ?
3. Plan out your meals for the week ahead of time, then shop specifically for those items. This will cut out the junk plus it will also eliminate the need to make quick stops at the store mid-week to grab missing things.
Those trips can be the most detrimental on your nutrition (and your wallet) because most likely you’ll be headed home from work or the gym and you’re already hungry. If you don’t go, you might not have something else to eat. If you do go the temptation is HIGH.
Best bet is to make a thorough list at the beginning of the week and stick to it.
Do this and no longer will your shopping cart be at the mercy of your cravings and hunger.
