The Placebo Effect On Your Results

Ever heard someone telling the story of how a pill, natural remedy or routine relieved their pain or healed an ailment?

Someone will usually say “that’s a placebo, it’s all in your head” but they say it like it’s a bad thing.

What if you chose to look at it differently?

Think about it: if something can make you have such a strong mental connection to your body that it creates a physical or emotional change for the better, shouldn’t you embrace it?

It’s also because our minds are so powerful, that this same “placebo effect” comes from the things we say to ourselves about ourselves even when it comes to reaching our fitness and fat loss goals.

Our minds can help or hinder our success.

When we say things to ourselves or others, even if a joking way, that belittle our efforts or hint at impending failure, we are in fact creating our own outcome.

Is That Salad Making You Fat?

Think fast; when I say diet food what’s the first thing that comes to your mind?

…..maybe bland, tasteless, cardboard…..but aside from that…..salad right? We women love salads when it comes time to think about weight loss.

More often than not though, I find my clients are making one of two mistakes which are both equally detrimental in moving you closer to your weight loss goals:

  1. They are eating salads so loaded with stuff like cheese, bacon, croutons, creamy dressings, nuts and loads of fruit, that they have as many calories as a cheeseburger. None of those ingredients are off limits, but there needs to be a balance.
  2. They are eating salads that are too skimpy. Eating a huge bowl of veggies is great, you should definitely do that. But if ALL you eat is a huge bowl of veggies for lunch, chances are you are going to be quite hungry in an hour or so and if you don’t have another healthy meal around, you could be tempted to check out what is in the breakroom or on the receptionist desk.

Salads can add great variety to your diet you just gotta do it right.

The 1,000 Extra Hidden Calories A Day Ruining Your Results

Let me bring your attention to some things that could be robbing you of your results:

  • The candy jar on the receptionist desk at your work or places you frequent.
  • Your morning coffee. Are you using creamers, sugars or grabbing a flavored latte?
  • Do you mindlessly munch on nuts at your desk or while you commute?
  • Grabbing a few bites off your kids or spouses plate.
  • Night caps
  • Wine with dinner
  • Do you nibble while you cook?
  • Did you get a 2nd serving of those Brussel sprouts and bacon even though you were no longer hungry because they tasted so good?

Get the idea?

Those extra nibbles and munchies = Mindless eating.

And as you can see, I’m not just talking about food that people like to label “bad”.

Sometimes we mindlessly eat perfectly clean foods for reasons other than what we need to satisfy our bodies.
